rent to own

if you are behind on your rent to own payments can they file criminal charges...i thought it is similar to a car loan or lease

I remember your question from a few days ago. Our answers were based on your presentation of the situation. In the United States you can not be criminally prosecuted for simply not paying a debt. If you refuse to return the product and refuse to pay for it you could be charged with theft or some form of criminal form of conversion.

Since that time you posted that charges have been filed. What are you actually being charged with? I seriously doubt that you are being charged criminally for failure to pay a debt. There is no statute for that.

A breach of contract is not a criminal offense. If you bounced a check, though, that can give rise to a crimminal complaint.
