Legal Question in Business Law in Florida
Resignation
I had an employment contract with the company I just resigned from. The contract stated that the company would supply housing for one year. After the year was up the lease on the company condo expired and I had to get my own place. My boss and I then entered into a verbal agreement that I would be paid a housing allowance and the company would supply the furnishings and some other small items amounting to about $4500 dollars. It has been a month since all transactions have taken place and I am resigining from the position. My boss was irate and told me he was going to get an attorney and make me pay him for the furniture. What recourse does he really have?

The furniture will probably be awarded to your employer. It was clearly provided as an inducement to your continued employment. By quitting, you breached that agreement and the employer should get it back - or the value of it in a court of law if litigation is pursued.

He can claim that the verbal agreement stated that the furniture was conditioned upon you working at the company.
