roofer paid for job lost check wants replacement, what do I do?

stop payment on the check and reissue it. If the roofer is a stand up guy, he'll agree to take your stop payment fee off his invoice or he'll pull some cash out of his wallet and pay you for your bank fees. Or you can tell him you'll replace the check as soon as he sends you the stop payment fee, if he's not quite a stand up guy. But regardless, you take the high road and issue the guy a replacement check.
