Sales Tax Penalties
Can the president of a corporation be personally liable for unpaid state sales tax or will the company have to pay the penalties? In other words, can the state take the home and personal belongings of the president?

Re: Sales Tax Penalties
Usually, yes, the president of a company is ultimately responsible for sales tax penalties. There are some exceptions, though, where others instead of the president are liable, so you should sit down with a lawyer and describe your specific circumstances. Generally, both the corporation and the corporation officers are liable for unpaid sales tax.
Sales tax should always be the first bill paid, since the State of Florida has powers even greater than the IRS to collect taxes from companies and individuals. In fact, there are very severe criminal penalties against company owners who don't pay sales tax.
