do shell companys have to show and prove their relationship to companys that are now out of business, in order to act on that companys business?

Yes, probably. How is an inactive company doing business? Through its principles. If the principle is another corp or a human being, then, yeah, you have to say who it is to transact any business. What does inactivity and anonymity have to do with shell corps and transacting biz?
