An auction should have records of sales with buyers, sellers, and prices. If the
buyer mistakenly paid an excessive amount, the buyer may claim the excess
payment based on the recorded amount of the sale. Like purchasing an item
with a check written for an excessive amount, the buyer is entitled to a refund of
the excess.
