Starting Up a Small E-Commerce Company from Home

Do I need to register as a company? If so,what type should I do since I have no partners but my spouse? Do I need to do both state and federal since it is an internet company?

Every business should be registered. I recommend that all businesses become some form of company for laibility purposes to protect the owners, but this is not required.
