If a company gives you a verbal confirmation of employment with a start date, salary, etc., can the offer be recinded without a valid explanation?

Re: Verbal confirmation of employment

Depends. Normally, Florida is an at-will state, which means that either the employer or the employee may terminate the employment relationship at their will and without reason or cause. The exception is that the termination may not be based on discrimination, e.g. gender, sex, nationality, ethnicity, handicap etc... The other exception is if there is a contract for a specific period of time for employment.

If there is a contract then your rights would be subject to the general terms and conditions of that contract. If you need to further discuss your case and are considering retaining a lawyer, then you may contact me at (305) 769-3000.

Best of luck,
