Legal Question in Business Law in Florida
My wife and I are getting a divorce. We own a lawn care business and both of us want to buy the other one out. If we live in the same area, and this business has been our sole income for 23 years, We've both made the same amount of money each year.
#1 If I allow her to purchase my half, am I required by law to sign a non-compete for a five mile radius around our town for 3 years AND pay her Alimony??
I don't mind starting a new business but I need to know, legally can an ex put a non compete on the other party in a neighborhood of 1600 homes when the business only has 70 accounts?

You are not required to sign such an agreement. At most, I would agree not to contact the existing customers. Good luck.
