Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

I will preface this by saying that we are a nonprofit group. Last year, we held an event to raise money for a charity like we have done for the last several years. This year we raised over 5x the amount due to partcipation and other sponsors that were normally not there. There was also additional profit above that. For the years prior, the entire amount above costs had been donated to the original charity. This year, due to the excessive profits we did not anticipate, the group opted to give the remaining excess funds to other charities to spread the wealth. Even though we increased the donations to the charity 5x, they believe they deserve more. Nothing was ever in writing. Where do we go from here?

Check your formation documents as to whether you had the authority to spread the wealth or were required to fund the one charity.
