Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Florida

civil rights

I was arrested on incorrect charges domastic violence. They have been holding me for 5 months. Last month they realized that it was not a domestic dispute and tried to change the charge. My attorney leaked info to the prosecutor and I requested another defender but was denied. I refused to accept the new charges and requested my case be dropped. It was not. My attorney does not contact me and is not giving me vigorous defense. My rights are being violated and I need help. I am an inmate at Lee County Ortiz Facilities

Re: civil rights

If your attorney is not responding, try a certified letter with a copy to the court file as part of your petition asking for a new attorney (or reconsideration of the order denying you new counsel).

Since you are currently represented by counsel, it is inappropriate for someone else to give you advice until you have retained them.

You might have misinterpreted your attorney "leaking" information, because attorneys HAVE to share information to negotiate. Still, whether your public defender is overworked and underpaid or not, you're entitled to his/her better efforts, so it might help to have someone help you from the outside.
