how soon should a lawer give his client a settlement after he ricived it

The answer is almost immediately after he has done a full accounting for expenditures and his fee. This should never take more than a few days and is something you should ask before agreeing to a settlement.

One thing lawyers have to do is make sure they have paid out the amounts they are obligated to pay out as expenses (e.g. expert fees, service fees and the like), then they deduct their own expenses and fees.

These should have been calculated before the settlement was approved, which is why it should be a relatively quick turnaround.

The only hold-up that would make sense is if an expert or contractor didn't get their invoice in as fast as they should, which holds up the entire accounting.
