Can the defendant's attorney have a witness for the defense

present during the deposition of the plaintiff?

Actually, I disagree. Only parties are entitled to attend depositions, unless consent is given. The entire point of a deposition is to learn what a witness knows, it is not a hearing open to the public. Experts get deposition reports, there is no need for the expert to attend, and most are too busy to do so anyway.

If your attorney allows this to happen, ask why. I would never permit a non-party to attend a deposition.
