Thank you for providing additional information. For the benefit of others, this is a follow up question, and the initial question was 'I took my car to the shop 2 months ago for repairs and paid in advance. They refuse to give my car back. What can I do?'
You need to send a letter, certified mail return receipt requested. The letter needs to state the facts (you took you car in on X date, paid Y dollars, requested information on dates A, B, C; spoke to so-and-so on Z date who refused to return my car). The letter needs to make an affirmative demand for return of your car and the money you paid in advance within 2 business days after receipt of the letter. The letter needs to say what you will do if they do not comply. What you will do is file a lawsuit for return of your car and for return of your payment. Depending on the value, you may have exceeded the max recovery in small claims court and may need to file in circuit civil court. Look to the Clerk of Court website in your county for information, forms, instructions for how to file the lawsuit.
I strongly recommend you hire an attorney to handle this for you. Often, a strong attorney letter will get the job done without having to file suit.
Good luck to you.
