Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Florida

Invasion of Privacy

I was dating someone in the law enforcement for a couple of weeks. I decided to end the relationship when he admitted that he had accessed my driver's license record (didn't think the picture was good). I can only image what other records may have been accessed and to whom the information may be shared. I don't have anything to hide; I just feel very uncomfortable about someone having such unlimited access to personal information. I did not give this person permission to look up anything; just something he decided to do.

This person knows where I live and work. Should I file a restraint order...please advise what is best for my safety.

Re: Invasion of Privacy

Although it is probably technically inappropriate for him to have looked up your license information while on duty, I'm not sure anyone will get that upset about it to the extent of issuing a restraining order. If he were on traffic duty, he could do it "out of curiousity" while deciding whether or not to give you a speeding ticket. On the other hand, if he has done more than that [and I mean overtly, something that most people would take as threatening] to make you feel like you're in danger of bodily harm, then go down to the personal protection office [if your county has one] and ask there what your rights are. The court usually has people who do these all day everyday, and they will be able to give you free legal information to help you make up your mind whether to pursue a PPO.
