Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Florida

Legality of recording a persons conversation

As a public school teacher in Florida with student discipline problems, I would like to record the student's remarks when they are disrespectful, unruly or use foul language. I would use the recording to show my principal (and hopefully the parents) just how the student really acts. Of course this could result in severe penalties for the student.

Is it legal to do this without notifying the student or parents in advance or without obtaining the consent of the student or parents in advance?

Re: Legality of recording a persons conversation

You are permitted to keep records about what happens in your class. Provided that you aren't showing the information to anyone else, there is no problem. Indeed, it could be a critical part of your defense to any action against the school for disciplinary problems!
