Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Florida

Reponsibility for property damage

My 16 yr old nephew took an unisured vehicle registered to me from my property without my permission while I was at work and was involved in an accident. He did not have a valid driver's license. The other person wants damages paid to fix his vehicle and is threatening to sue me because I am the reg. owner of the vehicle. I would like to know if I am responsible for this or if the boys parent/legal guardian is???? If he sues me-what can I do to recover from them?????

Re: Reponsibility for property damage

You are not responsible for the actions of another who took your vehicle without your permission unless you somehow negligently enabled him to do so. The vehicle was stolen according to your report, regardless of the fact that the thief was a relation.

Stand your ground. If you are sued consult a lawyer in your town.
