Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Florida
slander and harassment
my family and i are being harassed by a neighbor. my daught and i went thru something, and now we are subject to humiliation and slander. my youngest child is losing his friends because of the cituation. everytime i see someone or talk to someone they seem to brush you off, look at you like you have no head, and some tell me what she is doing. i do know that she has done this before to another family, and they ended up letting there house go just so ther kids could leave a normal life. is there anything i can do to stop this woman? she needs to stop playing game with people and childrens lives. it can destroy a childs mind with what she is doing to them verbaly. if you cant help me can you direct me to where i need to go from here. as most parents you want to protect your children, and i feel helpless. and i dont want to resort to anger or violence with these people. but it is getting way out of control, and im afraid im going to snap and make matters worse. but enough is enough. would a tro help or civil harassment suit help to at least get them to stop??

Re: slander and harassment
That is unfortunate. I'm not sure it would be possible, but the first thing I would suggest is to ask her to stop either directly in writing or through someone else so you don't lose control. If you're being harassed or bullied, you may consider requesting a restraining order from the court. If the neighbor is making false or defamatory statements (if spoken, it's called slander) to other persons, you may be able to file a civil action against her, especially if those statements have to do with: attacks on professional character, having a loathsome disease, being guilty of a crime of moral turpitude, or being unchaste. I hope this information is helpful to you.
