Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Florida
Starting on September 22nd, 2009, I started receiving disturbing emails from someone on facebook. I know this person through marriage. She is the sister of my sister in law. I am 8 months pregnant and I believe she is intentionally trying to upset me to cause complications in my pregnancy. The first email stated that "she would kick the baby out of me if she sees me". Additionally she continues to send me emails degrading my character and insinuating that my husband is not the father of my child. I went to my local police department and attempted to obtain a restraining order, but instead was told by the officer that the threat was not of criminal intent enough. She posted a public comment on facebook stating that someone should help me find my baby's father. She used my entire name. I know that this constitutes to libel. Do I have enough evidence to file a lawsuit for defamation (slander and libel per se)?

You can remove people as friends and block them on facebook (by name and email), so that they can't see your wall or info. You can keep information, such as your email address, private (only friends see it - go under settings). Regarding your potential case for libel: Was it a statement of fact (not opinion)? Also, is it a false statement?
