Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Florida

Towing charges

My car was stolen. I went to re-cover it but it was completely destroyed. The towing company wants to charge me $105.00 + title if I don't want to keep the car. If I don't pay them they will put a lien on my property. Can they do that? Am I obligated to pay the fee?

Re: Towing charges

This is not a civil rights question, so you really need a property attorney or perhaps insurance attorney to handle the question. Here are a few points, though. First, call your insurance company and ask for their help in dealing with the tow company.

Second, you don't say what the charge is if you do want to keep the car. The tow company can charge reasonable rates to tow and store the car, if you agreed to that when they picked it up (in wiriting or otherwise).

Good luck.
