Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Florida
is a victim in a case allowed to constantly contact people that are unrelated to the case and demolish the defendants character and insist that they be fired? please help!
1 Answer from Attorneys
It depends on what the victim is saying. If the victim's statements are not true, it may be defamation of character. The remedy would be civil, and the damages would depend upon the damage the victim's words (again, if untrue) have actually caused to the person's job, income, reputation in the community, etc. However, it is hard to damage someone's reputation who already has a bad reputation in the community (such as, a person convicted of a criminal act upon the victim). You should seek an attorney to fully review all the facts and advise on any course of action you may have.
