Truly sorry to hear about your situation. In reviewing your issue I must say this is a question best answered by a labor/employment attorney instead of a construction attorney. To get the best answer to your question, I would highly recommend reposting this question but select labor and employment law as the area of law. This way you will get the best advise for your situation.
In reference to you filing a claim of lien, you can do this but there are several things you must make sure of before you do. Two being you have worked onsite and served proper notice to owner. You did not mention it, but I am presuming you did not serve notice to owner. Another issue is the company you work for should be properly licensed contractor even for painting. You can go on myflorida.com website to see if a person is licensed.
Best wishes on your situation but as stated above, I would recommend you repost your question with labor and employment as the area of law instead of construction.
