In a lawsuit, to prevail you have to establish negligence, and that the damages suffered resulted from that negligence.

In a product liability case involving an alleged defective airbag, you will likely need to retain a qualified expert to establish that the airbag was defective. It costs a great deal of money to retain experts. If all you suffered were bruises, then it likely won't be worth taking the case to trial. Many attorneys might take the case without retaining an expert, and simply bluff. Most cases settle before trial anyway.

I maybe reading your question wrong, but it sounds like you are seeking financial independence through litigation. Such an attitude will be resented by a jury and the defense attorney(s) will discount the value of the case accordingly.

You should schedule a formal consultation with a lawyer. A good means of obtaining an attorney referral is by contacting your State's bar association or your local county bar association. They probably have a web site and charge a nominal fee for the referral. Most attorneys either provide a free initial consultation, or charge a nominal fee.
