Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

Billing for additional monies after bill is given.

I received a bill from my doctor at time of service. Later, they sent me an additional bill for the same service, stating that they forgot to charge me for one thing when I got the bill, and the other was for extra tests that they said the doctor requested later. I saw the test results, and they did not show any extra testing. Is it legal to bill more after the fact?

Well -- you can't bill for what was not done. If the test was not performed, then they bill should be adjusted. If the test was performed, then you owe it.

If the tests were, in fact, performed, it would be proper to bill after the fact for the extra testing. Often times, doctor's offices are not aware of what the patient's insurance will pay and what it will not. They have to wait for information from the insurance company and then they bill the difference to the patient.
