Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida
Bogus diamond certificate & insurance appraisal
I believe I have been defrauded by a jeweler who sold me a diamond. It took 5 months to get me an appraisal (for ins) He only could come up with a faxed copy of a diamond certificate, then he gave me a supposedly orginial from a laboratory with no markings, no date, no contact info., and neither lab had the diamond when they supposedly certified it. I have contacted the jeweler numerous times. I have contacted the Florida Consumer Affairs-he refused to mediate with them. I traded in my old diamond, gave cash, and financed the balance through his store. Do I have any recourse? I have independently sent the diamond to GIA Laboratory & also paid an independent gemoligist to look at the stone. They both concured that the stone is at least 2 grades (color, clarity, etc.) lower than the jeweler is representing.

Re: Bogus diamond certificate & insurance appraisal
There would be a number of legal claims you could bring against the jeweler. What is the difference in value beteween what was sold and what it appraised for. Also is the jewler still in business? Feel free to call or e-mail me re: same.
