Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

business law

I was wondering if it is legal for a company to charge an individual a cancellation fee in excess of actual services cost? ie.. I made a reservation at a local rental store to rent a trailer for the weekend at a cost of 18.50 per day for 2 days. I picked it up on Friday brought it back on Sunday, and on Monday they charged my account over $90.00. When I called to find out why, they stated I failed to pick up my trailer so they charged me $50.00. I then asked, then why did I return it to you yesterday and you charged me also for the usage fee. Now back to the question, If I had not picked up the trailer as scheduled on Friday do they have the right to charge me for more than a two day rental price? So sorry for rambling on, just really frustrated, now trying to get my money back.

Re: business law

It depends on the contract you signed. Does it state what and when the cancellation fee will be applied? Check to see. Go and speak with the manager, he or she may want to keep a customer.
