Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

cable tv

I applied for service with a cable company recently. I was told I have an unpaid 12 year old past debt with them and was refused service. Isuggested to them that the SOL makes this debt not current. I was told this is thier policy. do they have thier own policy that the SOL has no power concerning past debts in requards to them?

Re: cable tv

The cable company has to play by the same collection rules as everyone else, but here's your issue...

The cable company is not attempting to collect, they are refusing to provide future service. That's a different animal, and barring any FCC rules of which I am unaware, they are within their rights to refuse service to a customer who defaulted on a previous account.

If they were calling to collect or suing or something like that, then there would be a violation, but not in this case.
