Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

Used Car With A Lot of Problems

I bought a used car from a private owner in Febuary for $3450. I gave him $2450 and he's allowing me to pay him monthly until the balance is paid off.

I now owe him $650. In the past three months it has broken down twice with the first time being out of commission for two weeks and a half weeks (I work and go to school) and the second for a week which it's currently now in the shop. I've done a total of $700 in repairs currently and don't feel like I should owe him a dime. Could I legally not pay him any further since he promised and signed off a contract I wrote up stating that this car was in great condition with all the parts either new or recently changed which was what he stated? I want to go to him and demand the title.

Re: Used Car With A Lot of Problems

You should have gotten the title already. Don't ever give people money for a car without getting the title. Ever. It is a used car, so it would depend on what broke or needed fixing and what was said (more importantly, what is in writing), and what was signed. Probably, the fact that you had to fix some things would not affect your debt.
