Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida
consumer rights
Timesahre company turned my account over to collections for unpaid maintenance fees for the past two years. I have not received billing statements for the past two years. On their own, they changed my mailing address to my daughter's address, which was an old address with which mail was not being forwarded. Somehow, just last month the collection agency was able to find an updated billing address for my daughter and sent her the collection notice. I have no clue as to why they are sending her any mail in regards to this account and why they would now send the bill to an updated address now that it is in collection. Doesn't the parent company have a legal obligation to send me billing statements in a timely fashion to the address that I gave them in order for me to be able to pay the yearly fees in a timely fashion? Can I use this as my argument to dispute the account being put into collection.

I have no idea why many companies screw up the billing addresses. You can use that as an argument, but remember, you certainly knew or should have known of your obligation to pay the fees.
Work it out so that you just pay the fees without penalty.
