Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida
Contractural obligation
My son was dismissed, after 3 weeks of class, from a private school (for bringing a pair of scissors to school). We have prepaid 4 months of services.
I want to know if their contract is in fact legal, as it states they can charge us for service not yet provided.
They are the ones who terminated the contract. They say we owe them an additional 1400, including a termination fee.
How can you have someone sign a contract, collect their money, then cancel the contract and not give them their money back. It does not seem that this could possibly be legal, regardless of what they have you sign. ???

Re: Contractural obligation
I'm not sure why they want all the money now given that your son isn't in class. One theory may be that they could have sold that spot to someone else. Anyway, if that's what the contract says, you must obey it. The contract is legal.
