OK. You will get more letters and phone calls from collection agencies trying to get you to pay. What will happen next depends on you. You can passively let the collection agencies do their business and harass you, or you can actively protect and exercise your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and possibly earn statutory damages of $1,000.00 if you catch a debt collector violating the law in their attempt to collect on your credit card bill. A consumer attorney can determine which behaviors violate the FDCPA. If you don't have the money to pay your credit card bill, the FDCPA was made for you as you can turn the table on collection agencies. Save the collection letters, and especially any voicemail messages left by debt collectors and visit a local consumer lawyer, who might blow your mind by getting you money BECAUSE you are in debt. There is a silver lining in your cloud.
