Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

Dentist's price changed after payment

In 2003 got cost to have dental work accomplished. Had dental work performed in 2005. Asked dentist for price at time of actual dental work and paid the agreed price. Two weeks later got bill for additional 10%. The reason was that between 2003 and 2005 when dental work was done the insurance company changed the prices that they would pay - they increased. Even thought the dentist office did not recalculate the cost and quoted the 2003 cost and accepted the payment, the dentist now says that I am resposible for the additional 10%. Is this true? Am I oblgated to pay this additional dental cost?

Re: Dentist's price changed after payment

Question is confusing as to who increased the payment, sounds like insurance agreed to pay more and dentist charged more and somehow your stuck with an additional 10%. Does not make sense. Assuming the dentist increased his cost 10% and did not tell you of the increase, he is responsible for the additional amount, not you, because he did not disclose it to you. If insurance on other hand originally paid full amount and now only pays 90% and insured is responsible for other 10%, then you are responsible for the outstanding 10%.
