Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

Electrical contractor

I had an electical contractor give me a bid to install new light switches in my home, He has done alot of the electrical work on my home in the past, He also re-wired the house to accept these new switches. He gave me a verbal bid of $18 per switch , I told him I was getting other bids for the job also before I made a decision. The other bids were a little higher than his , So I told him he could do the job. After 2-3 days he came to me and said it was more work than he thought and would need more $$ to do the job. I told him I understood and would give him a little more to compensate the loss. When the job was (so called ) complete he called me and had a bill for me, When I asked how much he said $5600.00 whaich was almost double the original bid of $2450.00 .I told him he was way out of line trying to charge me double the original bid and he needs to re-think his bill. After the weekend he called me and wanted to get the bill paid and would e-mail it to me.I was Shocked to see a bill for $7030.00 for installing light switches.

Re: Electrical contractor

the question is whether you had a contract with him and, if so, what were the terms. It sounds like you made the too common terrible mistake of not getting the agreement in writing. If you have nothing in writing, then the issue is what you can prove. I can guarantee that your version of events will differ from his. That is why it is so important to get things in writing.
