Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida
My father just passed away. He had paid for a prepaid cremation in 1999. We just went to the funeral home and found out that they changed hands and we are told that "technically" my dad did pay for his services in full, but they are not obligated to fullfill the contract because they have changed "hands". This is in the state of florida and one of the gentlemen that we met with at the funeral home was with the original company. When pressed about what will happen now, they tell us, they will let us know. Do we have any legal recourse? We live pay check to pay check.

G back and press them for details. If, by "changing hands" they mean that a new company acquired the old company, then they would also acquire the obligations of the old company.
Is it the same company name? They may still be obligated under that contract even if there are new owners. If you aren't able to get their attention, I may be able to help you.
