Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

RE: Does a hotel have to honor a wrong reservation pricing that was on their website which was their input mistake?

I made reservations on line with a large hotel chain and they sent confirmation and at the bottom it states "We are sending you this confirmation notice electronically for your convenience. The Ritz-Carlton keeps an official record of all electronic reservations. We honor our official record only and will disregard any alterations to this confirmation that may have been made after we sent it to you."

So after this I book my plane tickets.

They emailed me the following morning saying that the input of the rate was off a number, instead of $63.00 it was suppose to be $639.00 and sorry but I can't have it. I have already made plane reservations for this trip, do I have any leg to stand on to make them honor this rate?

Since the mistake ($63 vs $639) for a room at the Ritz-Carlton is such an obvious mistake, it is unlikely that a court would hold them to a "contract" that contained an error that should have been obvious to you. This means that it was not reasonable for you to "rely" upon the posted rate, or your "confirmation".

It is likely that the Ritz-Carlton would give you a generous reduction in their usual room rate as "an accomodation". The term accomodation in a legal sense means that they are just being nice, but not under any obligation to be nice. Their alternative would be to simply refuse to rent the room to you at all, and leave you to find another hotel. Since it's unlikely that even a Motel 6 rents rooms for $63, it's not reasonable for you to expect to rent a room at the Ritz-Carlton for $63. You will have a much better "leg to stand on" if you are polite and reasonable while you are trying to negotiate a settlement with them.
