Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida
Is it illegal for debt collectors to call a debtor's family members house even if that debtor put their family's number down as a contact without their family's consent? They call constantly call when she's late on a bill(2-3X or more everyday) and we tell them that the person they are trying to contact doesn't stay here and to stop calling...they have her actual address but I'm not sure about her phone number, but they will not pursue other avenues! This has been going on for years!

If the debtor gave them this number, did you tell the debtor to call them and give them a different number? She's the one that gave them your number! Harassment, abuse, or calls outside of normal hours are prohibited by the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. 15 USC 1692 You would have to review the statute to see if their behavior complies.
