Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

i am getting married the 12 dec, i hired a photographer that i found through google he works from home and mentioned that he had to close the shop due to the economy and working from home etc, reasonable reasons with the economy these days. i have paid him over $700 in deposits of a $1800 bill. i have my engagement pictures coming up and tried to reach him, the phone number is disconected his website is down, i have not gone by his house where we signend the contract (his office)because i want some legal advise. i would like to ask for my money and find some one that seems stable as i am worried that this photographer might go bankrupt or out of buiness and i may be left loosing $700 and no pictures for the most memorable day of my life; but i have a contract and legally he can say he is still in buisness but i signed with him based on him having an established buisness web site and being able to contact him. What can i do? how should i proceed i do not want to risk the happiest day of my life but i am contracted at the same time it does not seem like he is going to be in buisness much longer?

That's a tough situation. I would have to see the contract to see if you have the right to cancel. Do you have any other way to contact him (email or mail)? Send him a letter. You need to have assurances that he will be able to do the job. I would ask for it in writing. Even if he is working from home and had to take down his website, he may still be able to do the job for you, as contracted, and take beautiful pictures. Best of luck.
