I was recently laid off and lost health coverage from my old employer. The former insurance company mistakenly paid for some prescriptions submitted by my pharmacist. Now the insurance company is trying to get me to reimburse them for the money they paid, even though it was their mistake. I had informed my pharmacy of the change in insurance, by the way, so I was not the cause of the inappropriate payments by the old insurance company. Must I pay the insurance company what they ask?

If you are entitled to payment from the "new" insurance company, have the pharmacy bill the new insurance and send a refund the old insurance company. If there is a difference between the two amounts, you owe the pharmacy for whatever they are not paid by your (then current) insurance. Send a letter to the old insurance company telling them that you have instructed the pharmacy to do this, and send a copy of the letter to the pharmacy as well.
If you do not have new insurance, yes, pay them.
