Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

rental cars

I have rented a car origainally set for three weeks. The contract had expired, but i contacted the rental company and told them that i would still be needing the car, the person I spoke to said that yes i could still keep the car but just return it as soon as possible. A couple of days later the car was reported as stolen according to the cops that showed up at my apartment ready to arrest me. My question is , Is a verbal agreement on the phone enough to allow me to keep the car? I have no intention of stealing the car. As a matter of fact i had told the company that.

Re: rental cars

Yes, an oral agreement might be good, unless the agreement you signed said that only a written agreement could modify the original agreement. I am not sure you had an agreement based on what you said. It seems too indefinate.
