Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

Im in a sitation to where I was scammed by a job offer. The fake company offered a job position of "secret shoper" and mailed a fake cashiers check for me to cash at my bank for compensation. The check looked real and there were no obvious forgery...at least in my eyes. So I figured I would go ahead and cash it and see if it goes through. If the bank accepts it, it must be good.....right? Obviously the situation escalates into a fraudulent matter. I did file a police report and the dectective in charge of my case ruled that I was a victim and that I do not have to pay.....no crime was committed by me. Also the bank that I originally cashed the check with was bought out by a new bank during the investigations and now the new bank is trying to recover. What are my options? What are my rights?

Thank you,

Mike

You probably owe the money your received from the fraudulent transation back to the bank.

I'm sorry to hear about this. The same scam is used by people on craigslist who want to buy whatever your selling with a cashier's check worth more. Share your story with others so they don't make the same mistake.
