Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida
I was suckered into registering for a $2000 camp for the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. through the Congressional Youth Leadership Council (CYLC) based in Vienna, VA (Richard Rossi - CEO). They sent letters with my son's name, his 5th grade teacher's name and elementary school name telling us that he was personally nominated by my son's teacher to represent the school. Approximately a month later, we learned that this company routinely scams people by portraying to be affiliated with the public schools when in fact they are not. I'm currently in a dispute with the merchant and my credit card company regarding a ~$500 non-refundable deposit. I have no idea how they obtained the information that they did, but I'm furious that this company misrepresents their affiliation with the public schools and I want justice served. I think the school district released records that they should not have released, but I'm not really interested in suing the school district because they are not the root cause of the problem. I want to go after the bad guy - Richard Rossi's CYLC. Not just a bad reference to Better Business Bureau, but I want compensation for the financial and emotional damage they are causing youth throughout this country. Is there a case to be made here?
