Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida
Theft in home by contracted employee's son
We bought carpet from a major home improvement store that contracted someone to lay the carpet. They did a poor job of installing the carpet, and have attempted to fix the problem 4 times. After the 3rd occasion, which they again did not do correctly, a 4th was needed. Another man was sent out who brought his 13 yr. old with him. My mom saw the son digging through a dresser drawer, and then stuff a magazine down his pants. My parents then confronted the son, who lied and said he had nothing. The dad made him give it back. My mom then asked what else he had and found he had stolen a bra. My mom told them to leave and called the home improvement store. The asst. manager told her it was our problem not theirs, and there was nothing they could do. The manager called us back, saying that we would get our money back on our carpet we had purchased and that it would come from the contractor. Also the contractor called twice to apologize and tell us the man was fired. Even though we got our money back and the man was fired, we still feel violated. Having someone come into our home and invade our personal space is a violation in need of further compensation. Is there anything we can do, and what, if anything, is there to get out of this?

Don't be greedy. You just got a free carpet, you were not even entitled to that.
