Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida

About a week ago a tranformer blew in our neighborhood and the power went out for the whole block. When the power came back on it was pulsing on and off quickly. The power company technicians came out and turned the power off due to smoke coming out of various appliances from others in the neighborhood. The next day when I checked my appliances many didn't work including my dell desk top and a digital converter. My question is what recourse do I have to be compensated by the power company

Unfortunately, probably none. The power companies sell power surge protectors that can be installed on your electric lines, and you as the home owner must pay for this protection. If the electric company could be held liable for all of the appliances and computers that burn up in this state, they would not be selling the power surge protectors at all.
