Legal Question in Consumer Law in Florida
World gym being taken over by Gold's gym
I've had a membership(5 people-family) with World gym since 1999. Attempted to cancel in Aug 2004. Was talked into keeping it by a manager with some modifications. Modifications were not done and it took several phone calls for them to act. Over a period of time they reverted back to the original contract. Nov 2006 World closed, sold memberships to Gold's. I sent a certified letter explaining what was promised me by World gym. Feb 2007, I was notified that all my memberships had been canceled. March 2007, I was notified that Gold's had made a mistake, my memberships were uncanceled and I was now responsable for all money due for the contract period including the month that we thought we were canceled. Gold's said they are enforcing the contracts and are not concerned about any alterations that World had made. In some paperwork that Gold's showed me, it stated that 2 of my accounts were ''DO NOT RENEW'' as of Nov 2004 but they said that that was also a mistake. I almost signed up 2 of my children with another gym and I told Gold's that I had. They told me that that was not their problem and that they expected full payment for my contracts with them and the new membership was not their concern. Where do I stand and what can I do?

A lawyer should be able to get this resolved with them. Or you can try negotiating yourself.
