Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

7 year old stolen check coming back to haunt me

In 1996 I had 2 checks stolen out of my work locker. They were cashed at a local grocery store for almost $400. I immediately contacted the bank to file papers with them, close my account and open a new one. The bank was to send the information to the grocery store to clear this matter up. I have not heard anything of this matter until 2 days ago when a collection agenacy called and demanded the money or there will be a warrant out for my arrest, just on one of the checks, in the amount of $193. What are the statues of limitations regarding this and can they threaten a warrant on the first time contacting me after 7 years? I also have great credit and this was never reported on my credit report, how can this be? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Have a graet day!
