12 year old utility bill

12 years I had electric in florida called the electic co and they said it was wrote off, but still want me to pay before I get service, if it was wrote off why do I have to pay?

"Writing it off" is an accounting term. It does not mean you are absolved of the debt.

Writing off a debt is an internal accounting term used by businesses so that they do not have to carry the debt on their books. It does not mean it was forgiven. Your responsibility to pay does not cease when a debt is written off.
