Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida
Almost 2 years ago a Judgement for nonpayment was imposed on me thru the court system in my county, by a creditor(credit card company). I recently won a small prize in the Florida lottery that requires me to go to the district lottery office in another county to cash the ticket. My question is will this money be seized or does the Florida lottery not take part in a situation(lien or judgement)like this? Thanks, Concerned.

This will depend on whether you receive an annuity or a lump-sum payment for your winning. If its a lump sum, there are likely no issues with the Florida lottery seizing it. The real problem comes once you receive the money. If you don't spend it fast enough, the judgment creditor will get a writ of execution from the court to levy and seize your bank account to satisfy the judgment. Also, if they haven't already they can attach liens against your real or personal property. There are options available to you to take care of this judgment so that it isn't held over your head for the next 15+ years. Call the Florida lottery and ask. I doubt they hold up awards.
