Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Bad check restitution

In December of 2006, I had written 2 checks at my Publix, ($76, $65.34). I got notice from my bank, and I in February I paid Publix and the fee's and got a receipt. I then received a notice from the Broward County State Attorney Bad Check Restitution Program, that I had to make restitution, pay a fee, and take a class. I had already made restitution.

do i have to pay to take there class? or will they file charges against me, even though i paid the store.

NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

You should speak with the State Attorney's Office and let them know that you already resolved this with Publix when you were informed of the problem. Send them copies of the payments you made to resolve the dispute and they might absolve you of any responsibility. Certainly, you will not have to make restitution again when you have already paid the monies due but they do have the right to require you to go to the class if they insist.
