my question is my husband and i have been married for 4 years he was married before and had credit card bills some how they took money out of our checking account am i responsible for those bill even if i wasn't married to him at the time can i have my own checking account with just my name or can they take my money

The money in your joint checking account can be garnished by a creditor (after obtaining a judgment) for only one of you. It's not the same thing as holding you responsible, even though you may feel like it is.

If you and your husband had two separate accounts (neither one of you being a co-owner of the other's account), your husband's creditor could not garnish the money in your checking account; it could only go after the money in your husband's account.
