If you are with a boyfriend and he has given you gifts throughout your relationship such as paying for things ie: repair of roof or re-screening pool deck etc etc...if he then broke up with you and years go by and now he is asking for money back...which was given as a gift....I am legally bond to pay back a gift?

If it truly was a GIFT at the time he gave you things, then no. One cannot convert a gift to a loan after the fact. Without proof, though, it's up to the judge's discretion to decide whether it truly was a gift or a loan. Roof repair and screened patios are not traditional gifts (unlike jewelry or maybe even electronics), but all that matters is the agreement at the time of the transfer. Additionally, if it has been years since a purported loan, and he has not tried to collect until now, he may be beyond the statute of limitations to try to collect.

Hope that helps. Good luck.
